Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel is a prominent German computer scientist and digital innovation leader, best known for his long tenure as Director and CEO of the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) and as founding Dean of the Faculty of Digital Engineering at the University of Potsdam. His research spans cybersecurity, Internet technologies, artificial intelligence, and digital education, with over 750 academic publications and more than 35 books.
He pioneered Europe’s first MOOC platform, openHPI, and played a key role in the development of the HPI Schul-Cloud, a national digital infrastructure for schools. As co-director of the HPI-Stanford Design Thinking Research Program, he helped bridge interdisciplinary research and real-world innovation.
Prof. Meinel holds honorary positions at universities in China and Israel, is a member of acatech, and serves as chairman of MINT Zukunft schaffen. Now Professor Emeritus, he remains active in shaping the future of digital education through the newly founded German University of Digital Science.
